Foley, Alabama, is a city in Baldwin County that serves as a principal city of the Daphne-Fairhope-Foley metropolitan area, which includes all of Baldwin County.

Foley was founded by a Chicagoan by the name of John B. Foley, who stumbled upon the area in 1901 while traveling to President William Mckinley’s funeral. The following year, Foley met up with a railroad agent and purchased over 50,000 acres of land that would later become Baldwin county. By 1905, Foley’s first railroad station was built, and the first train to service Foley, a wood burner called the “Pine Knot Special,” began its long journey of transplanting people from all over the country to Foley.

Fast forward another 100 years, and Foley has blossomed into a charming cultural center for southeast Baldwin county. Aiming to honor its rich locomotive history, the city of Foley built The City of Foley Museum & Archives and Model Train Exhibit in a restored train depot from the early 1900s. The exhibit houses centuries of railroad memorabilia as well as all of the archival information for the city of Foley.

In addition to the preservation of their railroading days, Foley is also home to the Holmes Medical Museum which was the first hospital in Baldwin County. The museum is a dedication to the science of medicine and its advancement into the modern century. The museum has a large collection of 20th-century medical equipment and it even has a doctor's sled on display!

Finally, one of Foley's most unique attractions is The City of Foley Antique Rose Trail. The trail used to be a section of John B. Foley's original train track which was converted in 2007 to host a mile-long stretch of over 500 different fragrant roses.
