The city of Andalusia has a fascinating history, beginning on the banks of the Conecuh River at the trading post community called Montezuma. While it's uncertain as to how Montezuma got its name, historians say that it could have been the Spanish influence of traders up and down the river to Pensacola or possible refugees moving in from the Mexican Revolution.

The town of Andalusia is located slightly northwest of the center of Covington County, Alabama. In 1899, two railroad lines arrived in Andalusia, the Central of Georgia and the L & N Railroad, and the town began to grow into an area served by the South Alabama Regional Airport which is a commercial air transportation hub for southeast Alabama.
